this project follows photographers brian hill (amsterdam, the netherlands) and stan engelbrecht (cape town, south africa) as they complete weekly assignments they set for themselves.

although vusi kunene was a firm favorite in this oswenka competition held in johannesburg every 3 months, he was defeated by three other competitors and placed fourth. these oswenka competitions started many years ago during apartheid: miners that would be living in the city hostels would compete against each other for the title of the best dressed and most stylish. the whole aim of the competition is to find the best way to show off your outfit. the suit, tie, socks and accessories etc. would somehow have to work together to create a striking effect. then you have to show that effect that off and impress the judges.
